So 2015 is about to come to an end. It was an odd one for me, starting with recovery from an operation, which took much longer than I could ever have anticipated.
And when I did get back to a sense of normality, I chose to take a job for the first time in over 5 years, rather than be a freelancer or contractor. Since then it’s been a busy 7 months settling into the job, with quite a few challenges and learning experiences.
One thing I realised after not very long was that my regular blogging couldn’t carry on as it had been doing. I went back to writing creative snippets, but found that even those fell by the wayside when I got really really snowed under with project work.
But creativity is important to me – writing, taking photos, exploring, noticing details of my surroundings. So in 2016 I’m going to try something new. A daily blog post. The idea was sparked by someone mentioning that members of my camera club sometimes do a 365 photos challenge. And I realised that while that would be nice, it would mean only focusing on photography. Plus I know how I get towards the end of one month photo challenges and I wasn’t sure I could sustain a whole year!
So instead I decided to make up my own rules. 366 posts (it’s a leap year), one a day, but they can be as little as one word. A photo, a word, a sentence, a scribbled doodle, whatever inspires me that day, whatever words come into my head.
And because I know I’ll be busy again once Monday comes round, it will help me find a little creative moment in my day, encourage me to go for a walk or think of something outside my immediate tasks. As well as to remind me to get out in the fresh air at weekends and go to some new places for inspiration.
I’ve got some challenging (but exciting) professional objectives that I’ve set myself for 2016, so a bit of creativity alongside those will be a nice break. I’m definitely looking forward to the evolution of things in 2016, having come out of an interesting 2015.
If you’d like to keep up with my daily posts, please visit here and share the ones you like. I’ll still pop back here from time to time to indulge in some longer blog writing. But until then, have a Happy New Year in 2016!!
